Scion Auto is Dead

We’ve all grown accustomed to seeing the quirky little cars directed at the youths of today roaming the streets. But, come August, 2016 those peppy little cars will no longer bear the Scion symbol. Toyota, which is the parent corporation of Scion has decided to discontinue the brand and absorb the core facilities into Toyota. Originally the Scion brand was created to draw in a younger age group then the idea was that they would eventually move up to Toyota when it was time to trade up.
This was a great idea at first, the brand’s fresh image and unique cars that catered to younger drivers were a hit when it first came out in 2003. Unfortunately the novelty soon wore off when Scion sales peaked in just 2006. If you look at Scion sales for 2015 you’ll see why Toyota had to pull the plug. Sales totaled just above 56,000 cars in 2015 which barely represents just two months of sales on the Toyota Camry alone.
But all is not lost. Some Scion cars will be moved over to Toyota. The recently released iM and iA are both being re-branded as well as Scion’s top selling car the FR-S. Unfortunately, staple cars like the tC will die along with the Scion moniker. All Scion owners can still go to Toyota dealerships for service and all other warranties and promises will be fulfilled by the parent corporation.
So, if you’ve always admired the little cars that emphasized modern lifestyle more than anything else, now is your last chance to be part of the legacy. It might be too late to save the brand, but you can always cruise around in a car that will forever be unique compared to the rest of the cars on the road.
