Endangered Baby Dolphin Killed By Selfie Mob

People will do just about anything to get a perfect selfie these days. Apparently in the case of these tourists in Argentina they would even kill. Dolphins are cute playful creatures of the sea so when people see baby dolphins of course they would frenzy around it. Two baby La Plata also known as Franciscana dolphins were separated from it’s pod by strong currents. They ended up very close to the shore where some very “smart” people thought, hey let’s get that out of the water to take pictures with it.
Before long, a massive mob of beach goers struggled and fought their way to touch and manhandle the poor baby dolphins. Unfortunately with no protection from the blazing heat, one of the two baby dolphins died. Even worse, after the mass of selfie photographers were finished they just left the dead animal on the side of the beach with no respect for the animal and seemingly no understanding of the magnitude of what they had done.
The AWF, Argentine Wildlife Foundation, estimates there to be less than 30,000 of these dolphins in the wild. A spokesman for the AWF said this, “The potential for recovery of this species is very low.” Another spokesman for the World Animal Protection group said, “This terribly unfortunate event is an example of the casual cruelty people can inflict when they use animals for entertainment purposes.” Few would deny that an animal’s life is too high a cost just for a few pictures and unfortunately this isn’t the first time people’s selfishness cost an animal it’s life.
In China, there was an incident where a group of men took photos of an injured dolphin without offering any aid. Eventually the dolphin died from dehydration and it’s injuries. Another incident happened in New York when a number of families took pictures of a beached shark as it suffocated to death. While that last scenario might be a bit more understandable since sharks are known for their aggression, there was not even an attempt to call officials. These incidents are increasing at an alarming rate and it’s about time we stand for the dignity for life. No creature, man or animal should have to lose their life for no reason other than just entertainment.

There is a major problem when humans get so obsessed with selfies that they neglect responsibility, good sense and compassion. I find it absurd that the mob was more concerned with manhandling the dolphins, to the point one of them died, than to help them. What is this world coming to?
This whole taking-selfie attitude is dumb. It is pointless and brings mostly shame, such what happened with the baby dolphin. What is wrong with those people.
I don’t understand how these people could be so cruel. Don’t they have the slightest clue that dolphins or any living animals are capable of being hurt too? This infuriates me
The hype of taking selfies these days have taken a toll to the point of killing innocent animals. What kind of world do we live in?
Taking selfies is become fashion in now a days. But it is harmful for animals and nature also. People think and try to avoid selfies. Don’t disturb the nature.
I don’t think people realize the gravity of their actions when it comes to wildlife, and how it affects not only the environment, but how others will eventually treat wildlife as well. I mean, imagine the children at this event – how will they now treat animals when they see them? I think that more laws – enforced laws – need to be made to keep animals like this safe. Perhaps this is something that PETA could consider as part of one of their campaigns. Either way, it was wrong what people like these did. Not so much poor animals – poor us for our behavior.
If humans are the stewards of creation, then this is proof that it ain’t in good hands. A life in exchange for some pictures? Definitely not a fair trade.
Selfie obsession is shameful. It’s too bad that we can no longer experience an event without recording it to post on social media. This poor baby dolphin died to feed the egos of some selfish people. Such a sad statement on how vain we’ve become.
It’s so ashamed how stupid people can be. They say humans are the smartest animals, but I don’t know now.
This makes me want to just reach through my computer screen and choke some sense into these morons, for real! This makes no sense at all.
