We often hear about celebrities who have a philanthropic spirit, going out helping out everyone in need. Many celebrities like Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, Mia Farrow, among many others not only donate a fraction of their earnings every year to the Non Governmental Organizations (NGOs), orphanages and other organizations working towards improvement and betterment of these people.
Similarly there are other celebrities who try to take some time out of their busy lives and hectic schedules and spend some time with such children, children struggling with cancer among many other. There are also organizations who organize these meetings and events such as Wish Upon a Star, through which children write letters to their favourite celebrities, talking about their likes and dislikes and how they want to meet the celebrity. These celebrities then actually come and spend an entire day with these children for instance John Cena, Demi Lovato all do so. J. K. Rowling, the famed author of Harry Potter series, went a step beyond as she became pan pals with a Harry Potter fan struggling with cancer. They began writing regularly to each other and Rowling even shared snippets of the next book she was writing. When it was found that the young girl would not be able to survive until the new Harry Potter book came out, Rowling visited her and told her the entire Harry Potter story way before the publication date. It is beautiful to learn of the extent to which celebrities go to help their fans.
Of course these children and people need all the love they can get and all our attention, compassion. But it is seldom seen that celebrities visit children who have certain talents or are gifted immensely like Carrie Underwood did.
PS22 Chorus is a Chris group formed by group of elementary children studying in Graniteville, Staten Island, New York. This group of ten year olds was formed in 2000 and has won a Webby Award for their amazing performances
They sang Carrie Underwood’s sing ‘So Small’ together with Carrie Underwood and their music teacher playing the piano. While everyone could be seen enjoying the song as they sang it, it seemed surprising how great these children’s voices were blending together and with Carrie’s, without being in any studio or having any professional tweaking done to their songs.
As the songs ended, all of these children, the teacher and Carrie began taking about music, how it connects people and helps you connect to your emotions and inner feelings. While they were talking one of the little girls, who was a part of the choir, commented that she loves this particular song. When the music teacher inquired as to why she likes it, she began talking about the troubles her parents have been going through and suddenly broke down into tears.
It was heart-warming to see all the children sitting around her immediately begin to comfort her. They all started patting her, holding her hand, some sitting further away even got up to be by her side, each trying in their small innocent ways to comfort her and help her. While you are watching all this and feeling a wave of warmth wash over you, something else happens that evil touch your heart deep. Amidst all this, Carrie Underwood made her way towards the little girl too and touched her hands. She pulled the girl in for a tight hug and the girl immediately reciprocated by hugging Carrie tightly, burying her face in Carrie’s arms.
Carried hugged her and then as they separated, she praised the children all around. She too was amazed at how willing and incredible their support system, everyone rushing to play their part in helping their friend. The music teacher too tried to comfort the girl by saying that emotions and feelings were an integral part of music. He even said that by being open to these emotions, allowing yourself to cry and feel them makes you a better artist and singer as you are able to reflect those emotions in your song writing and singing. Carrie Underwood agreed too with the music teacher saying that she also is able to write better as she can connect to these emotions and feelings. When she was about to leave, she highly praised and applauded all that these children had achieved so soon in their life and praised their music teacher too for helping them out, giving them the recognition and status they have in the world of music today. Carrie wished that she had had something similar too when she was in a choir as these children got to make new music and sing it while Carrie had all the boring, old ones when she was growing up.
While this is a heart-touching video of a very commendable act, there are other celebrities who also indulge in such kind acts. Taylor Swift has also done something similar when she tries to meet her fans every now and then. For instance when the video of the cop whose video of lip-syncing and dancing to Taylor Swift’s song ‘Shake it Off’ went viral, Taylor actually arranged to meet him and thank him for being such a big fan! She also recently met up with an Australian girl who is said to look like Taylor’s twin.
Stories of such kindness towards fans from celebrities are very well-known. Angelina Jolie stopped on the red carpet as she was walking to a premier, when she saw a fan collapse as she had a panic attack seeing Angeline Jolie up close. Angelina sat down with her and comforted her until she felt better. Heath Ledger was also very considerate towards his fans, stopping to meet them each time he could.
While these are just the stories that actually make way to the press and newspapers, it makes sense that there would be a hundred more that these celebrities keep private. Of course when you have so many people giving you this incredible amount of love and devotion, you would want to go out of your way to help them or assist them in any way big or small. And it is a wonderful piece of news to see celebrities reciprocating this love.
