Electoral College Demands to Know About Russia Hacks

The Electoral College has been whipped into a frenzy over alleged reports from the CIA that indicate that Russia is behind the election hacks. Nearly a quarter of the Electoral College are now demanding that the intelligence reports on the election hacks, now classified, be declassified so that all electors can be briefed on what role Russia had in the hacks that riddled the Clinton campaign. Many analysts believe the hacks on secretary Clinton was one key reason for her defeat. If a foreign government deliberately interfered with the results of the election then it creates an unprecedented situation.

The elector leading the charge to declassify the intelligence reports is a California elector by the name of Christine Pelosi, daughter of Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi. An open letter referenced the fact that if the allegations are in fact true, that means Trump was “receiving assistance from a hostile foreign power to win the election.” Republicans also have concerns over what these allegations could mean. The GOP are currently rallying support to have the intelligence reports declassified.

One Virginia elector, Don Beyer, is even calling for a postponement of the Dec 19th Electoral College election until all the electors can be briefed on Russia’s involvement. “I believe that Electors should be given all information relevant to this interference before they make their decisions and before they cast their votes,” he tweeted. “Congress must take whatever action is necessary to protect the integrity of our democracy. I call on the leaders of Congress to delay the date of the vote for the Electoral College until an intelligence briefing has been given to each Elector.”

Other than the electors themselves, other political leaders realize how important this information might be. The Senate Minority Leader, Harry Reid, also has called on the CIA to brief the electors before the Electoral College election on the 19th. “If we don’t act early, and soon, we run the risk of having an illegitimate president,” the freshman lawmaker said. “That’s not good for Donald Trump and not good for America.”
